History |
The Knox Pipe Band began in 1946 with a group of nine boys and four sets of bagpipes. Pipers and drummers first appeared on Cadet Parade in 1947. The arduous question of which tartan should be worn was settled in favour of the Macpherson and in 1952 it was decided to put the entire cadet unit into kilts. Since then the band has become an integral part of the Knox tradition. The band practices two mornings a week and performs regularly at functions such as ANZAC Day, inter-school events, special cadet parades and pipe band competitions. The Pipe Band assists the cadets on special occasions but is not part of the cadet unit. Band members can participate in normal cadet activities unless the band is playing. Band members can achieve ranks such as Drum Sergeant and Pipe Major. Master in Charge of the Pipe Band, Ainslie Hart, is responsible for the overall management of the band and conducts band marching drills. The band aanager, Bronwyn Martin, organises tuition and liaises with event organisers and band suppliers. She should be contacted for any enrolment information or requests for the Pipe Band or individuals to perform. Knox owns a number of bagpipes and drums, many of which have been donated by the OKGA and KPA. Uniforms, excluding the Balmoral and white shirts, are also provided by the school. Pipe and drum lessons are available through the school. |
